Breathing exercises for kids can be one of the simplest and most effective ways to support calm, focus and emotional regulation.
In this short video, I share a quick breathing technique for children that can be used at home or in the classroom.
As you inhale, spread your fingers wide. As you exhale, gently make a fist. Repeat for 5-10 slow breaths. This breathing exercise helps with:
• calming the nervous system
• mind–body connection
• co-regulation between adult and child
• transitions, overwhelm and emotional moments.
Because this breathing technique is simple and visual, it works well for:
• young children
• older children and teens
• parents at home (especially at bedtime)
• teachers in classrooms (before focused learning).
The most important part is that you breathe with the child. Calm is learned through connection and co-regulation. This is a 2-minute breathing exercise for kids that can make a big difference when practiced regularly.
